[Update] STOP! This article is obsolete. If you are looking to install Windows XP on the 5315-2326, information on driver support, as well as information on the fan problem, go to the new article. Really it is the 5315 model of Acer’s laptop line. Be default, Vista (Home Basic in my case) is loaded onto it. Vista is very sluggish on single core processor systems. On my system, Vista is fine. However, more speed without a bottleneck would be nice, especially if I’m switching this laptop as my main, again. Could XP be installed onto it? Perhaps. Research. Yes, it can. There is also driver support for most of the devices. There is one problem though. Acer installs ‘Acer Empowering Technology’ onto this line of laptop, it helps control things that would otherwise be found in the BIOS. They are strangely absent from the BIOS. This program doesn’t exist for XP. Why the problem? After falling asleep, the laptop will refuse to start up the fan and control said fan properly without the software. Currently it only exists for Vista. Rebooting or letting the laptop overheat and shutdown is one option. However, a few people have tested this line of laptop with the same results. The devices on the laptop started to fail periodically. Vista it is. |
