The polar ice caps have melted in the distant future, much of the land has been flooded, but mankind has learned to adapt. That is the premise of this movie. We start off with a Mel Gibson (unless it is Mel Gibson) look alike. He’s aboard a rather snazzy and custom built pontoon boat that only heroes are worthy of, he’s busy gathering something from the ocean floor when he is met by another drifter like himself. It turns out something of his has been stolen while he was near the ocean floor. Just as he is about to reclaim what is his, a group of pirates known as Smokers speed by on jet skiis and head them off. The hero gets his lime tree back without much trouble, and the drifter is left to the smokers. He stops in at a local rig. It would appear to be similiar to an oil rig of sorts, but it is more of an outpost colony for traders. There is a small patch of dirt with trees inside it, so it may be on a mountain crest. He does some trading and makes more money that most people passing through, enough to raise eyebrows. They capture him because he is a mutation, one with gills behind his ears (pointless movie statement?!). The Smokers eventually ambush him, he saves a woman and a girl and the rest of his time in the movie is spent helping them get to dry land. He does take on the Smoker overlord and their massive oil tanker, and they do reach land. The movie is more of a hit or miss. I enjoyed it compared to most people. Yozuki’s Drive - 7 |
