Hannibal “the Cannibal” Lecter. Just an ordinary man, detective, opera lover, reader of classics, intimate knowledge of biology, a man with excellent taste… A taste for meat. What better way to show how cultured he is, then by feeding his guests that rather charming musician fromthe opera hall? So begins the numerous disappearances of individuals from around the country. Just what is happening to them? Hannibal and his crime partner (I forget his name), seek to find the answer. Both exchange notes in Hannibal’s study, and the partner concludes the man must have certain traits. Hannibal rushes off to take care of some business, but comes back just as the crime partner puts together the clues, found in Hannibal’s study. Hannibal uses his quick thinking to subdue him, but not before his crime partner also takes him out. Hannibal is locked into a maximum security prison, but his former crime partner comes back when he needs help with a case involving a serial killer. What better way than to ask one himself, one who is also a serial killer? I wont’ spoil much more of the movie, but I will say, this is just as good as the first Hannibal, starring Anthony Hopkins, who does an excellent performance. Red Dragon Rising is not actually the first movie to bare this same plot, but another one from a previous date (two decades I think) takes that title. If this is a remake, I’m not sure. But it alludes to the first movie (love the ending to this one). Definitely watch this. Yozuki’s Drive - 8.5 |
