Aka, A Fistful of Dollars, for a Few Dollars More, and the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. These are all where Clint Eastwood makes his big debut as the man with no name. He plays what is thought to be the same man in all movies, he’s never given a name, but is nicknamed Goldie in the last movie. These movies are dubbed a Spaghetti Western as they were filmed over in Italy. The landscape resembles heavily of Mexico and the West. The exact era is not named, but it does take place around the Civil War. The movies are a bit hard to explain as I’ve not watched too many Westerns, but the man with no name is often portrayed as a vigilante, squinty eyed, always speaking only as necessary and with the minimum amount of words. He’s thinks there is nothing like the feel of a freshly lit cigar, and always has one on him. His oufit slowly builds up from each movie, but he otherwise retains the black hat and constantly flips over his poncho when ready to draw. First movie has a bank robbery taking place, and Eastwood tries to foil it. The second has him vs. two wanted gangs. The third has him trying to collect on 200,000 in buried gold. Each time he plays a mercenary after a bounty of some sort. The first and third movies are the best, but the second one kind of falls flat. This trilogy is sort of mandatory when it comes to Westerns. Yozuki’s Drive - 8.5 |
